A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear friends and supporters, we find ourselves in such a different landscape from where we were a year ago. Despite all the challenges, and there were many, the LQ team quickly pivoted to all remote services. In 2020, in partnership with our dedicated volunteers, staff:

Served 1,815 clients, impacting the lives of 2,554 children

Made 119 remote and in-person appearances on behalf of 85 clients, securing orders about custody, support, protection from abuse, and equitable distribution of marital assets

Helped close to 300 people develop an understanding of their rights and responsibilities during a time of unprecedented stress and uncertainty

Guided over 20 families through the court’s new remote adoption finalization process

Presented a combined 8 informational webinars for the public and virtual CLEs for legal professionals

This resilience and dedication to our clients honors the vision and grit of our founders, three grandmothers who 40 years ago rose to meet a challenge and founded an organization to help folks who had no place else to turn.

I hope you will join us this year in celebrating 40 years of service to our community.

Helping us to meet community needs in our new environment are our Board of Directors and Leadership Council. Both groups met in recent weeks to set their 2021 goals. Their efforts are critical to keeping our organization a resilient, reliable nonprofit law firm for folks with unique vulnerabilities who struggle to get the legal help they need.

WELCOMING OUR NEWEST BOARD MEMBER

Leslie Howell is president of Amicable Divorce Services, APLC, where she is a mediator and collaborative divorce attorney. Prior to becoming an attorney, Leslie was a jazz singer living in New York City, Japan, Hawaii and of course, her hometown of Los Angeles. Leslie earned her B.A. and J.D. at the University of Southern California, and has attended numerous formal trainings in mediation and collaborative divorce over the last 10 years while scaling down her litigation practice to become a peacemaker.

She is currently president of the collaborative practice group, Family Divorce Solutions of the San Fernando Valley, and is a member of Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association, Southern California Mediation Association, International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, Pasadena Bar Association, and Los Angeles County Bar Association.

LQ BOARD PREPARES FOR 2021

The LevittQuinn board renewed connections and planned for the coming year at their annual retreat, held via Zoom this January.

We are so grateful to Marty Dutch, Vice President of Philanthropy Services at First Foundation, Inc. who joined us once again, facilitating rich discussions about vision and goal setting. Thanks also to our friend, Steve Mindel of Feinberg, Mindel, Brandt & Klein, LLP, for joining us to share his insights on establishing fruitful connections in a challenging environment.

LQ’s Leadership Council came together last week for their annual retreat. Facilitated by advisor Tiffany Tran, and joined by board liaison Ami Fields Meyer, the LC reviewed progress towards their 2020 goals. Together, they learned how to identify and leverage their strengths, skills, and talents to meet individual and group objectives for the coming year.
